SkillsUSA Scholarship Winner

Ann Jarvis, faculty sponsor for the UNM-Gallup Chapter of SkillsUSA, announced that Isaiah Garcia has received the mikeroweWORKS Foundation Travel Scholarship to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.  Isaiah, from the CCTE Fire Science Technology program of study, was recently awarded this prestigious scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to help defray travel costs to the national conference which will be held from June 24-28, 2019.  As a state gold medal winner, Isaiah was eligible to apply for this scholarship which required a student-written narrative that describes financial need.

Isaiah is the only SkillsUSA member from New Mexico to be awarded this honor.  He is a recent Gallup Central High graduate and will be pursuing a career in fire and emergency services.  Ann Jarvis notes, "He displays an eagerness to become involved in activities and to encourage others to participate in events.  If I had to describe Isaiah in one word, I would choose 'determined' because he sees what he wants and set out a course to action to reach his intended goal."
